Blue Point Brewing Company Pumpkin Ale is the fall seasonal offering from a Long Island, New York favorite. The beer has a traditional pumpkin spice appearance: amber body with a white head that leaves behind some lacing. A visible carbonation allows the the taste and aroma to dance about the palate. The scent is very sweet and has spiced, caramel notes at play. It almost smells as if the rim has already been sugared. There is a faint clove presence in the background as well. The taste is a bit more complex than the straight forward pumpkin spice standard delivered in the aroma. There are sweet notes of caramel, cinnamon and a bit of clove throughout the sip. A touch of bitterness at the end balances the flavor a bit, but overall the sweetness prevails and dominates the aftertaste.
What Alicia Thinks:
This is the kind of beer I imagine drinking at a Halloween party. It is festive, as you can clearly taste the pumpkin spice notes, but it is not too overpowering in either flavor or alcohol. However, it is quite sweet so if that is not your thing than perhaps this won’t go beyond a tasting beer for you. I would say this is pretty straighforward as far as pumpkin brews go and it is on the lighter side, so it may be one of the beers I would consider an intro to the genre.
What Kevin Thinks:
Blue Point Pumpkin Ale is a nice beer. The beers appearance, aroma, flavor and aftertaste fits into the genre without stretching or breaking any boundaries. The smell of cinnamon and spice stays true through the flavor, mingling with caramel, and flows into the aftertaste. This beer isn’t too rich but is substantial enough to make it a flexible brew. If you are looking for a light-medium body, semi-rich, cinnamon & sugar, easy drinking pumpkin ale this would be a safe bet. That being said i was hoping for a little more from this beer and a favorite local brewery. For me this is a 6/10.

The Brewery Says:
According to Linus there are 3 things never to discuss with people: religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin. Our Pumpkin Ale, on the other hand, has made quite a buzz from New Hampshire down to Florida. Every season has its pleasures. Harvest your own with our Pumpkin Ale and reap all that Autumn has to offer. Brewed with pumpkins from only the most sincere patches, this seasonal brew is golden orange, crisp and delicious, with an innocent hint of cinnamon and nutmeg that articulates our favorite season. Gather with friends and family and enjoy the change of seasons while savoring a pint of Pumpkin Ale. Just like the leaves, it’s gone after Thanksgiving.
